| The Ministry of Education and the governments of Fujian Province and Xiamen City in Fujian signed an agreement Thursday on jointly building Xiamen University into a prestigious institute of higher education in the world.
According to the agreement, the ministry and the governments will invest a total 600 million yuan (about US$72.3 million) in the 2001-2003 period as development funds for the university.
The investment will be used in improving the university's education and research facilities and promoting professional training and high-tech developments.
